Before running the Roaming Remote for the first time, you should ensure your RemoteSERVER.license file is in the same folder as the RemoteSERVER.exe program.
The Roaming Remote RemoteSERVER program now AUTO-DETECTS all supported connected hardware (A/V receivers, processors, satellite tuners etc.) and no longer requires user intervention to set-up!
When the application runs the first time, it will "probe" all active COM/USB ports for connected devices and configure itself accordingly. Congratulations! you have completed the server or host setup. Next we need to install the client software on the PDA or Pocket PC.
Installing the Roaming Remote Client Software on your Mobile Device Go to the drive where you installed the Roaming remote software and navigate to the folder: \Roaming Remote\RemoteSERVER. In this folder there should be a file with the .CAB extension. This is the software and installer for your mobile device. The best way to install the software is to copy this file over to your PDA or Pocket PC (you can do this using ActiveSync in XP or Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista), find the file using File Explorer (on the Pocket PC) and then just click (or "Tap") it. It will self install and create an icon in the start menu.
Using the Roaming Remote On the Today screen on your Mobile device, tap the Start button, find the WiFiRemote program that you just installed in the start menu and click it. Give it time to load and wait until the setup screen appears.
Before you can connect to the server PC and the rest of your system, you'll need the IP address of the server PC.
There are a number of ways to get the Host PC IP address, but the RemoteSERVER program (on the Host PC) makes this easy by displaying the IP address in the lower right hand corner of your Host PC display. If the IP address is not showing, move your mouse cursor over the RemoteSERVER icon and right-click. The version number and Host PC IP address will be displayed. Enter this number in the space provided on the mobile device. Leave the TCP port at 3742.
You are now ready to connect to the Host PC. Just tap the green "Start" button and a screen will appear asking you to wait while your mobile device connects to the Host PC. Upon successful connection, the mobile device will switch to the PreAmp Tab and you should be ready to control your system!
