What is the Roaming Remote? The Roaming Remote system is software that turns your Windows based computer and Mobile Device (Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smart Phone) into a powerful and integrated media control system. Roaming Remote's software solutions enable a low cost, high performance and reliable touch screen media control alternative to expensive high end systems. The Roaming Remote requires no programming and is easy to operate, even for non-technical family members!
How does it work? The Roaming Remote system consists of two programs: A client program which resides on the Mobile Device and a server program which is loaded on your networked Windows based media player or Home Theater PC (HTPC). The system uses your WiFi network to communicate with your HTPC to control your HTPC and any serial (or USB) connected audio equipment such as audio receivers, pre-amplifiers, satellite TV tuners and display devices. And since the the HTPC usually plays your media using a software based media player (e.g, PowerDVD), the Roaming Remote system can control that as well, allowing you start, stop, fast forward and rewind your current media selection!.
Aren't there other products that can do this? Not really. There are some high end media controllers that perform similar functions but they are proprietary, much higher priced, require expert installation or programming and are usually fixed touch panels, not mobile ( or "roaming"). Other low to moderate cost solutions, require you to program them before use and are infrared (IR) based which limits their range and reliability and many lack an attractive and intuitive touch screen interface like the Roaming Remote. The Roaming Remote solution requires no programming or additional hardware like IR blasters. It is designed to work with your equipment right out of the box (well, if it came in a box!).
OK, I'm interested. What do I need? Minimum recommended system configuration:
- Windows based PC or HTPC with serial or USB port(s)
- Windows Mobile Smartphone, PDA or PPC
- Wired or Wireless network
- Receiver, preamplifier or processor with a serial control port (Onkyo, Integra, Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha and many others manufacturers have receiver and processor models with this feature as do most high-end processors)
